Victorian Crescent Star & Arrow Brooch

$1,100.00

A 'lovestruck' motif bar brooch circa 1880 crafted in 14k yellow gold set with genuine turquoise & pearl, two gems noted for their traditional references to fidelity and enduring love. It's wonderful in a grouping but also makes a sweet and subtle statement worn on its own.

The symbol of a heart with Cupid's arrow through it is generally recognized to refer to a state of being known as "lovestruck": when one is consumed by a soul-deep love beyond any control. An evolution from the image of a sword through the heart, which represented the redemptive love of Jesus for mankind, first noted in the visions of St. Margaret Mary Alacoque in the middle of the 17th century.

A thoughtful love token gift; perfect for the romantic bohemian bride.

DETAILS: The bar measures approximately 2 1/2" long by 9/16" wide at the crescent. Not marked for metal content but professionally tests to 14k gold.

CONDITION: In excellent condition with a light antique patina. The hinge and hooded C-clasp are in secure working order.
