Victorian Purse Locket in 14k
This circa 1870 antique locket is a perfect miniature replica of a Victorian purse, crafted in 14k yellow gold. Originally this might have hung from a chatelaine or ladies' watch chain, it opens to reveal space for one photo, retaining the original glass-paned compartment lid.
DETAILS: Measuring approximately 13/16" north to south, not including the twist wire handle which makes it 1 1/4" total, and and 11/16" at the widest east to west. Not marked for gold content but XRF tests to 14k. Weighs 2.9 grams.
CONDITION: In excellent condition with a light patina and a couple of very subtle dings. The hinge is in firm working order and the locket stays firmly closed. While it does appear that it might have been meant to hold two photos, the interior side opposite the photo frame has an opening that was sometimes simply meant to provide ease for the frame when the locket closed.
