Victorian Pearl Fly Jet Brooch
A striking antique Victorian brooch, circa 1890, featuring a cheeky little fly of 14k set with lustrous pearls perched on a bar of smoothly carved jet.
Though this is made of black jet it's not necessarily a mourning piece, though that is possible. Flies had symbolic significance in the 19th century, sometimes used as representations of human mortality and by extension spiritual humility; but they can also represent hope, adaptability and resilience, making this the perfect gift for the quick thinker or perennial optimist in your life.
Details: Measuring approximately 2 15/16" long and 1/2" wide. Not marked but the findings and fly professionally test for 14k.
Condition: In excellent condition with a subtle patina and some light wear but obvious chips or scratches. The tube hinge and safety catch are in strong secure working order.
