Antique Filgree Miniature Portrait Necklace

$495.00

Circa 1920 an antique miniature portrait painting pendant of a pretty young woman in 18th century attire with roses in her hair and a Mona Lisa smile. Framed by intricately worked filigree that tests to about 900 silver, with a large filigree bail and the original slightly convex glass cover.

Most likely painted on natural material or porcelain, as was the custom for such pieces. She's beautifully detailed, with minute attention paid to the lace edging of her neckline and the pearls in her hair. This is a romantic piece, a stylized version of earlier 18th and 19th century miniature portrait paintings of actual people, crafted with an artistic eye and a talented hand.

Details: Measuring approximately 2 1/2" high from the top of the bail to the bottom of the frame, and 1 5/8" wide. The portrait itself measures 1 1/4" by 1". Hung from a 20" sterling silver rolo chain.

Condition: In excellent condition with a rich antique patina and some slight oxidization spots to the back. The portrait is complete without any visible evidence of damage or flaking paint.
