Antique Fede Gimmel Ring in 10k

$900.00

An early 20th century fede gimmel ring crafted in 10k yellow gold, featuring a pair of clasped hands that open to reveal hidden double hearts. There's so much tenderness inherent in this motif; a thoughtful and a poignant love token statement.

It would also be wonderful as a pendant worn on a simple chain, perhaps strung next to a locket or other memento.

Details: Measuring approximately 4.63 mm wide north to south at the clasped hands, with the bands 1.85 mm wide at the center back. Sits about 4.2 mm above the finger at the center front. Marked for 10k gold and weighs approximately 3.3 grams.

Size: 5 1/2 scant and not resizable.

Condition: In excellent condition. The bands open smoothly on the rivet, care should be taken not to exert pressure on or twist to splay the rings while in the open position, so as not to break the rivet. With a gentle patina and light wear speaking to the love its original owner must have had for it.

History: The history of the gimmel ring goes back to at least the 12th century. The fede gimmel is the result of its slow evolution from a two band form to three incorporating the fede symbol of hands clasped over a hidden single or double heart. A timeless symbol of regard and deeply held feeling for another, and popular since Medieval times as a symbolic way to mark the commitment of two lovers to the strength of a single pledge.
