Victorian Pools of Light Halo Locket

$2,800.00

A rather spectacular late 19th century "pools of light" locket crafted in 18k honey-yellow gold with seven rock crystal orbs arranged in a petal halo around the center compartment, which has a crystal dome cover. Photos that are viewed inside will appear slightly magnified; quartz works as a magnifyer when cut and polished in an orb or cabochon.

Details: The locket measures approximately 1 5/8" in diameter, not including the bail, with the compartent relatively shallow, about 1/16" deep enough for a photograph, lock of hair, pressed flower or similar flat memento. Not marked for metal content but XRF tests to 18k.

Condition: In excellent antique condition with a light patina, subtle marks in the metal on the back and minimal rubbing to some of the orb surfaces, but no disfiguring scratches or chips. The locket opens smoothly and stays safely shut when closed. There is a slightly visible retaining screw in one of the orbs, difficult to notice when worn.
