Victorian Enamel Cupid Locket
Engraved floral details and a black enameled backround give this circa 1880 Victorian locket a striking effect. Featuring a beautifully detailed garden scene of Cupid approaching a demure little putti, who's gathered a mutlitude of roses using her draped skirt as a basket. Creamy seed pearls accent the border, adding texture and their delicate shimmer to the frame.
Perfect gift for a bride who has a romantic antique aesthetic, and a lovely choice as an anniversary gift.
Details: Measuring approximately 2 3/8" from top of bail to bottom of the locket, the locket itself 1 5/8" by 1 1/4". The hallmark for origin on the bail appears double struck and is illegible, but the locket tests to 800 silver and the work is likely Austro-Hungarian or Swiss. Inside it has a glass-paned gold photo frame on one side, the compartment roomy enough for a flattish memento like a lock of hair or pressed flower.
Condition: In excellent antique condition with some light wear to the enamel surface but no obvious chips. The lid opens smoothly and shuts securely, the inside compartment has moderate oxidization and a few light scratches to the metal.
