Edwardian Gold Filled Locket on Bejeweled Chain

$485.00

A fantastic large-sized antique yellow gold-filled and amethyst paste locket circa 1910 with a bloomed finish and applied Etruscan style wire-work filigree decoration.

The filigree pattern is reminiscent of a William Morris print, with its gracefully exuberant arrangement of scrolls framing the stone. The back has been engraved with the initials "C.L." in rich foliate ribbon script.

The locket opens to reveal a gilded interior with space for two photos and retains one of the original photo frames as well as a picture of a young woman in a very stylish cloche hat circa 1925.

Hung from the original 23 1/2" chain which features gold-filled cable clinks interspersed with faceted amethyst paste and satin-ribbed gold-filled beads.

DETAILS: Measures approximately 1 5/8" inches north to south and 1 1/4" east to west. Marked underneath the photo with the maker's mark "W. & H. Co." inside a heart for The Wightman and Hough Co., manufacturing jewelers in Providence, Rhode Island from 1856-1926.

CONDITION: In excellent condition with a gentle antique patina and some slight oxidization. Opens and shuts firmly.
