Carved Libyan Desert Glass Skull Charm

A hand-carved tektite (aka Libyan Desert Glass) skull, with the clarity and smooth even color of smoky quartz, fitted with our own 18k bail and jump ring. 

Libyan Desert Glass was created over 26 million years ago, when a meteor hit in the Sahara caused the sand to melt due to the intense heat created by the impact. The geological term for such naturally created glass is tektite, and while it can range in color from pale yellow to inky opaque black, the clarity of the material used here is exceptional.

From a philosophical perspective, I love both the extra-terrestrial aspect of tektite, as well as the memento-mori reference of a carved skull: endless material for conversation.

Details: The skull measures approximately 1/2" by 5/8". The bail and jump ring are both 18k yellow gold.
