Anchor & Love Knot Pendant Necklace

We've combined two of the most significant traditional symbols of steadfast love and devotion in this handmade 10k yellow gold and sterling silver necklace: an anchor and a reef knot, both cast from antique Victorian pieces in my own collection.

The combination of both is a subtle way to send a poignant message: "By the strength of love we are bound, and by the sincerity of my devotion our love is protected."

Details: The anchor itself measures 1" north to south including the oversized bail and about 5/8" at its widest. The love knot measures approximately 1/2" long by 1/4" wide, strung on a fine sterling silver cable chain for a total necklace length of 18", finished with a sturdy lobster claw clasp.

History: For centuries the anchor has symbolized hope as adopted by Christians, but even before that it represented safety and strength especially to ancient seafaring cultures. An anchor tattoo can refer to a steadfast affection or love and the strength and stability of the relationship's foundation. It can also be symbolic of the determination of the wearer's own personality.

A reef or square knot in its practical application is used to tie two ends of a single rope together around an object or bundle, to hold it securely. It's a type that's been used for literally thousands of years, and makes a wonderful metaphor for steadfast love.
