SIZING, ENGRAVING, & PERSONALIZATION

Please contact us before purchase if you have custom requests, including resizing (rings, bracelets, & chains) and engraving, for information and pricing.

Ring sizing can be done to applicable pieces for an additional fee (usually $30 - $60 USD for up to three full sizes for most rings). Extra wide bands, platinum, and/or any carving or shaping will be additional. Please confirm before requesting sizing as charges may vary.

Sizing generally takes one to two weeks to complete, depending on the ring.

We work with a master engraver who can create a variety of font styles. Pricing is based on style and number of characters. Engraving generally takes one to two weeks to complete (depending on the piece and the time of year, with holidays needing longer lead times).

 

JEWELRY CARE & REPAIR

The pieces in the shop are described as accurately as we are able with the aid of magnified viewing, over 35 years experience with jewelry and the study of historical modes, and consultation with experts in the field when necessary. We only sell pieces that we've determined are in wearable and serviceable condition.

The antique and vintage items, as well as many of the repurposed pieces, will have lived a long and perhaps adventurous life before they come to the shop. Please keep in mind these are pieces with history and are not in brand-new unworn condition; we will note any issues in the description and provide multiple photographs, which should also be considered part of the description.

Please note that nothing is immune to damage or wear after purchase if proper care is not taken and items may require maintenance at some point after purchase: stone tightening, band resoldering, prong retipping, etc.

It is important to choose pieces that are appropriate for your lifestyle. This is especially important with an engagement ring or other piece that might be worn daily; consider prongs, enamel, pearls and opals carefully as they may not work for daily or vigorous wear and may need special care.

We are happy to discuss any concerns you might have in this regard.

It is recommended that rings be removed when performing manual labor such as gardening, heavy carpentry, working out, or any other strenuous activity; swinging a hammer can be hard on the round shape of a band. This particularly applies to pieces with enamel, pearls, opals, and delicate filigree but even diamonds can chip, or stones can fall out if proper care is not taken.

Don't be afraid of your jewelry, just be aware of it and tailor your expectations accordingly.

If your piece should happen to need repair after purchase, please contact us for an evaluation and estimate. We guarantee the items are as described, but do not guarantee they won't need maintenance or repair due to use and wear after purchase. Repairs are subject to reasonable additional fees which will be determined after evaluation. We do not guarantee or reimburse for repairs done to our pieces by other shops or jewelers.

 

DIAMOND WEIGHT

A note about diamond size and weight: many of the stick pins or other elements we repurpose are already set with their gemstones or diamonds, as are most of the antiques. The cuts are usually old mine or European and because of their deeper culets, off-round shapes and higher tables, and their weight is difficult to determine using the formulas for diamonds with a contemporary cut. Therefore, their approximate weight can only be estimated. It is impossible to get an accurate number without removing the diamond from the setting to be weighed and this could possibly damage the piece.

By industry standards, appraiser's grades can often differ up to and including one full grade.

All sizes and weights on set stones are approximate. Differences found under 1 mm are not considered appreciable.

Where the diamond or stone is the greater part of the sum value, we do have the piece professionally examined and verbally appraised by a third-party appraiser. Where the diamond or stone is an accent or a more equitable part of the sum value, I provide the measurements so you can visualize the size and design characteristics.
