Victorian French Jet & Cut Steel Fringe Necklace

$1,500.00

A dramatic mid-19th century Victorian French jet and cut-steel fringe collar necklace; "French jet" refers to a type of molded black glass, produced in France at the time, that emulated the look of the wildly popular natural jet. The rosettes of faceted steel have the prettiest sparkle against the inky discs, each plaque joined by a link set with a tiny steel rivet; if you look closely you'll see even the drop links are accented by a teenier version of the same rivet.

I'm not exaggerating when I describe this as fabulous.

Details: Measuring approximately 16" long with a total fringe width of 1". The glass discs are mounted to brass, with the original box clasp in secure working order.

Condition: The glass discs are all complete and free from noticeable chips, cracks or scratches, with the original box clasp in secure working order. There's some light oxidization on a few of the steel rivets, but no severe corrosion; one of the rivets is missing on a disc close to the clasp, which is in the back when worn.
