Art Deco Morpho Wing Teardrop Pendant

Circa 1925, an elegant teardrop pendant that beautifully showcases a blue Morpho butterfly wing specimen incased in glass, with incredible iridescent color that shifts as light illuminates it, changing from twilight-blue to glowing electric teal. 

Details: The pendant measures approximately 2 1/4" long including the elongated bail and 13/16" at the widest. Marked on the back for "925". Hung on an 18" sterling silver chain.

Condition: With a gentle antique patina to the back of the pendant speaking to it's dignified age. The butterfly wing in in excellent condition.

History: Thomas Mott is credited with introducing this type of morpho butterfly wing jewelry at the British Exposition of 1924. Sulphide figures encased in glass have been around since the early 19th century,  a process of encasing a ceramic medallion completely in glass.
