Victorian White Rose Enamel Locket

$1,500.00

This antique sterling silver locket letter dated 1879 features a realistically illustrated spray of wild white roses, symbolic of sincere platonic love and the integrity of honest devotion; the perfect gift for your bestie. I love the way the rose petals are brought to life by the artistry of the enamelist, each delicate vein in the leaves carefully drawn.

The back is skillfully hand-engraved with a meadow scene of birds and wild flowers, with English hallmarks above.

DETAILS: Measuring approximately 2 1/4" long including the over sized bail, the locket itself measures approximately 1 9/16" north to south and 1 3/16" wide. It opens to show space for two photos, and retains the original photo holders and a pane of glass on one side. Antique purple paper lines each side, which can be removed if desired. Fully hallmarked for sterling silver, manufactured in Birmingham, England and letter dated 1879.

CONDITION: In excellent overall condition with a gentle antique patina speaking to its dignified age and some light marks, including a slight shadow on the front, but no chips in the enamel, disfiguring scratches or dents.
