Victorian Hand & Anchor Charm Necklace

$1,100.00

A unique Victorian watch-chain necklace crafted in yellow gold-fill with a 10k slide and two antique charms: a gold-filled anchor and carved tagua-nut hand with gold-filled cap.

Victorian society was especially superstitious and carved hands in various poses were popular ornaments to ward off various and sundry evils both physical and metaphysical.

DETAILS: The chain has an approximate 20" necklace length with an additional 2 3/4" drop of the charms.

CONDITION: In excellent condition with a light antique patina and subtle wear to the plating. The clasp is in strong working order.

HISTORY: The symbol of a right hand holding a rod, staff or scepter has several meanings throughout history; specifically in the 19th century it was a reference to the spiritual omnipotence of God with the hand itself representing the divine entity and the rod or sceptor representing the power or authority God wields.
