Victorian Fly Fishing Cameo Earrings

$1,200.00

A first for us in cameo subject matter (and very possibly one-of-a-kind): exceptionally well-carved agate earrings, circa 1870, featuring a fly-fishing equipment motif of rod, net and creel.

These may have originally been collar buttons, but they were expertly converted to earrings at some point on their history with 14k wires.

While early mentions of fly fishing go back to the Ancient Greeks, the popularity of the sport is credited to first 16th century treatise on angling, further developed in 18th century practices.

Details: Each measures approximately 7/8" in diameter, not counting the earwire which adds 1/2" to the drop. Not marked for gold content but acid tests to 14k.

Condition: In excellent condition.
