Victorian Tricolor Swallow Pendant Necklace

$0.00

This product is unavailable

Circa 1880 an antique swallow charm necklace, the bird crafted in 10k rose-tinted gold with yellow gold and platinum overlays and hand-engraved texture to emulate feathers. With a slightly 3-dimensional construction that gives the bird depth and character, it's the perfect summer necklace.

Details: The pendant measures approximately 7/8" north to south and 1" east to west. Not marked for metal content, XRF tested to 10k, hung on a contemporary 14k cable chain that has jump rings fro adjustable length at 16" and 18".

Condition: In excellent condition with a beautiful antique patina and a little dimpling on the back (this was likely originally a small brooch).

History: The image of a bird in flight has been used both as a representation of the soul commended to God's care and as a symbol of loyalty and steadfast love, as a bird always returns home to its nest. Swallows particularly are known for the great distances they will travel to return to their traditional breeding grounds.
