An antique Victorian promise ring circa 1895 crafted in 14k gold with a warm rosy tint. Featuring a seed pearl-studded scroll gracefull angled through the center, flanked by glittering genuine emeralds and delicately articulated shoulders. A romantically pretty piece epitomizing the charm of the era. Measuring approximately 3/8" north to south, and 5/16" east to west across the face, with a 1.53 mm band width at the center back. Currently size 7 and resizable about two full sizes without issue. Please convo me before purchase if you are interested in our sizing service. Victorian promise rings were given to indicate a vow or declaration of sentiment between two people. Not necessarily a promise of engagement, though that could be one meaning, but more to signify sincerely heart felt affection. Gem symbolism was important in the 19th century and care was put into the combination of jewels in a ring to convey the desired meaning. According to gemlore an emerald brings serenity and calm to relationships thus assuring domestic bliss. Certainly the temperaments of the two people involved will have a great deal to do with that as well but it's nice to have a little metaphysical assistance. Combined with the pearl which symbolizes loyalty and the purity of one's emotion this delicate ring speaks of a sincere and heartfelt affection that promises to stay true even through life's more turbulent moments. In excellent condition with a gentle antique patina. Not marked for gold content but acid tests to 14k. Marked with the jeweler's hallmark for M.B. Bryant Co., manufacturing jewelers out of Newark, NJ from 1858-1931.
