A beautifully detailed Victorian ring circa 1890 crafted in 10k rose-tinted yellow gold. Featuring a cushion-cut amethyst of excellent clarity and richly saturated color, estimated at approximately 5 ct. The beautifully designed gallery holds the stone aloft in it's gracefully swagged prongs, allowing light to pass under and set off glittering plum and raspberry highlights. The shoulders of the shank are delicately engraved in a classic Victorian Aesthetic motif. I love the way the gold prongs form a delicate frame around the edge of the stone, highlighting the shape and perfectly complimenting it's rich color. Measuring approximately 13 mm by 10.68 mm and rising approximately 6.18 mm above the finger when worn. With a 4.59 mm band and currently size 10 1/4, resizable at least two to three full sizes without issue. Please convo for details before purchase if you are interested in our sizing service. In excellent condition with a light patina and minimal wear to the stone. Not marked for gold content but acid tests to 10k. Amethyst lore has a rich and varied history. Traditionally the stone is said to bring it's wearer happiness, love, internal peace and spiritual fulfillment. It has been worn to aid in battling the grip of addictions and alcoholism, in fact the origins of it's name are found in the Greek word amethustos meaning sober. The original legend of the stone itself illustrates that before reality TV there was… Greek mythology. Apparently Dionysis, in a fit of anger over some perceived rejection of his gifts of wine and inebriation, set voracious tigers upon a virginal maid named Amethyst. When the unfortunate girl cried out to her patron saint Diana she was turned into an inedible pillar of white granite… uh, rather than be transported to a safer location, but I guess Diana had to think fast. Not completely lacking a heart Dionysis was shaken by this sight and realizing his overreaction cried tears of wine onto the pillar which promptly turned purple… creating the gemstone Amethyst. In 1912 it was adopted by the American National Jeweler's Association as the official birthstone for February and is considered the birthstone for the zodiac sign Pisces. It's also a traditional gift for the sixth wedding anniversary. ❃ The Eden Collective Ring Shop: https://www.etsy.com/shop/TheEdenCollective?section_id=13939721&ref=shopsection_leftnav_1 ❃ We are happy to offer layaway.
