Our charmingly detailed silver fly ear cuff started out as a whimsical Victorian collar button; we molded the little fellow and cast him in solid sterling silver. Flies in particular had symbolic significance in the 19th century and were used sometimes as representations of human mortality and by extension spiritual humility.
They're also a totem of resiliency and spirited independence: in short, risk takers.
Contrary to my impression of most flies I do think there's something sweet about these little bugs, a sort of wholesome friendliness. They're not trying to get in your way, they're just trying to get by.
This particular fly itself measures 5/8" long and 9/16" wide, firmly soldered to a cast sterling cuff. No buzzing off at inopportune moments.
