Antique Riker Bros. Swallow Pendant Necklace
The feather texure hand-engraved on this circa 1900 Art Nouveau bird pendant gives the surface of the gold a most delicious warm matte glow. Crafted in 14k gold with a slightly 3-dimensional construction and a subtle tilt to the wings so the swallow appears in swooping mid-flight, his tiny garnet eye gleaming.
Details: The pendant measures approximately 1 3/8" long and 3/4" wide. Marked for 14k on the back next to the Riker Bros. hallmark, hung on antique 14k long & short cable chain with a necklace length of approximately 16 1/2", weighs 5.3 grams.
This was originally a hat-pin that came to us missing it's long hinged stem, hallmarked on the back for Riker Bros., a jewelry design and manufacturing firm founded in 1846 in Newark, N.J. The company rose to become one of the most well-respected jewelry houses in the U.S., and their Art Nouveau pieces especially are highly prized today.
Condition: In excellent condition with a beautiful antique patina and a few light marks on the back where the hat pin hinge was removed.
