An antique signet style ring with an oval-cut pyrite face, circa 1900. Crafted in nickle silver, also known as German silver, which actually contains no sterling but is an alloy of copper, nickel and zinc. The alloy was developed in the latter part of the 19th century and marketed to the working class as a low cost alternative to sterling silver. All sorts of decorative and personal items were produced and German silver remained popular through the early 20th century.
This particular ring combines pyrite's rough hewn antique charm with a smooth elegant setting that has a surprisingly modern vibe. Measuring approximately 1/2" north to south and 3/8" east to west across the face. It's a comfortable ring to wear, size 5 and not resizable.
Pyrite's traditional metaphysical benefits include good fortune both romantically and fiscally as well as protection against physical illness and injury; ancient Chinese tradition holds it to be protection from crocodile attacks.
In excellent condition with a gentle antique patina and some slight surface marks as evidence of its handmade charm. There is a construction seam on the inside of the face, not visible when worn.
*Note: please consider any metal allergies when purchasing this ring. It is not sterling silver as noted above but contains undetermined amounts of copper, zinc and nickle.
