A wonderful Victorian miniature compass fob, crafted in 14k gold with a warm rosy tint, circa 1885. With its hand-painted directional points and a glowing patina it remains fully functional, retaining both the original glass covers and an excellent sense of direction.
Measuring approximately 15/16" in diameter, and 1/4" thick.
The compass is a wonderful symbol, both for its literal usefulness as a tool and its poetic quality as a metaphor considering it gives geographical direction; one's inner moral version is sometimes the only guide available when difficult decisions must be made.
A thoughtful choice as a graduation or friendship gift, it might also help you find your way back to your car after a long day at the mall.
In excellent condition overall, with a gentle antique patina and some light wear to the glass. Not marked for gold content but acid tests to 14k.
