Eduforma Online
With more than one million books published and hundreds of e-learning courses, Editorial MAD is a leader in business publishing and exam preparation services. When the need arose to update their proprietary Learning Management System (Eduforma Online) to an open source web platform, Eden Collective was given the opportunity to make a pitch for the project.
We proposed using a modified version of Chamilo, a European-based open source solution for e-learning which possesses the vast pedagogical versatility a project of this magnitude would require. Editorial MAD accepted our proposal and we got straight to work.
One thing we pride ourselves on is listening to our clients and extensively understanding their overall strategy for a project and how we can best aid them in achieving their goals. After extensive meetings with stakeholders within the client org, we felt we had a good understanding of the project. Only then did we begin to map out the functions of the e-learning platform and integrate that with an installation of Chamilo. From strategy development to coding, we built every bit of the application so it would fit Editorial MAD’s educational requirements and business goals.
“We thank Eden Collective for their dedication and personal attention on all aspects of this project, from training requirements to the scope of function we needed. They were flexible, adapted to our needs and provided us with effective solutions compatible with our pedagogical approach.” – Ángel Crespo, Director, Eduforma Online
One on the major challenges we met was the migration of over 3,000 active users from the old platform to the new. We wrote several custom scripts that enabled us to accomplish this migration with absolutely no data loss.
By migrating Eduforma Online to an open source web application, Editorial MAD gained an improved user experience and expanded functionality for both tutors and students. In all, Eden Collective made more than 80 functional add-ons to the existing Chamilo platform, most of which allowed Eduforma Online to obtain official approval from regional government to impart e-learning courses.
An improved end user experience and compliance with government regulations achieved a positive impact on the Eduforma Online business model. They increased their student body by over 5,000 users in a short amount of time- an increase of over 100%! By using an open source solution, we were also able to complete the project on a reasonable budget and leave Editorial MAD with a platform that could be actively improved as developers across the continent improved Chamilo.
